1. Cote Laramie is the 2009 N.H Poetry Out Loud Champion

Judges crowned Cote Laramie, a junior at Concord High School, as the 2009 New Hampshire Poetry Out Loud state champion on Saturday, March 21, at Keene State College. Laramie came out on top in a competition between the top 10 high school finalists from New Hampshire’s East and West regionals at Keene State College. Laramie will represent the state of New Hampshire in Washington D.C., on April 27 and 28. He won with his recitation of “Two Guitars” by Victor Hernandez Cruz. 

Plymouth Regional High School senior Molly McCahan was named alternate champion should Laramie be unable to represent the state. McCahan participated this year for the third time.

Jillian Peters of Hopkinton High School and Campbell Lozuaway-McComsey of Portsmouth High School completed the final four, while Nellie Teeling of Cocheco Arts and Technology Academy (Dover), Marissa Smith of Goffstown High School, Amanda Kruczynski from Pembroke Academy, Victoria Duquette of Pittsfield Middle High School, Lianna Bessette of Salem High School, and Victoria Hastings of Timberlane High School were the other eight finalists.

2. New Poet Laureate continues Poet Showcase

New Hampshire’s new poet laureate, Walter Butts, is continuing the tradition begun by poet laureate emeritus Patricia Fargnoli – publishing a new poem every two weeks by a New Hampshire poet. The poems appear on the poet laureate section of the State Arts Council web site. 3. Spring Artist Entrepreneurial Workshops Filling Up Quickly
